Those who think themselves powerful, in the long run are proven weakest. We do not remember the murderer's rage, the thief's greed, or the fool's pride. In moving forward, we must strive to overcome such things. True power is found in that which endures, like the ancient love of a parent for their children. Millions of years old, it is, and it will endure as long as man for when it is gone, man is gone. The awe that the universe inspires in us which powers our desire for knowledge and understanding. The humility which allows us to grasp that understanding is the point, the only point, of all this. The belief that life is sacred. These things are what will survive in a future mankind which does not self-destruct into pointless chaos. The shallow illusions of worth which thugs and strongmen revel in are less than yesterday's moonlight, remembered only as examples of what we must avoid. Less than a forgotten footnote. Power requires memory. Greed, hate, rage, selfishness, pride, conceit, arrogance, disdain, such things are weakness which through the millennia we strive to erase, when they do not self-destruct as they often do. Power is warmth passed from one hand to another in winter, not the short-sighted theft of coals which kills the fire of man.
